Happy 33rd Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!

My precious parents!!
Mom and Dad with their baby girls!

Yesterday, June 12th, was my mom and dad's 33rd wedding anniversary!! I am so proud of them and their commitment to the Lord, as well as to one another. What a wonderful example they've been to me and many others! What a testimony of God's faithfulness! I do not have pictures from their wedding to post with a recent one for comparison. However, I believe they've gotten more beautiful with time.

A couple of months ago, I allowed my students to Skype my parents, so they could meet the family. Well, in the midst of the video conversation, my dad (Dutch) asked the students, "Can everyone see me?" To which they all responded, "Yeah." At their confirmation, my dad lifted his shirt and stuck his gut out as far as it would go. The kids in my class screamed, laughed histerically, and fell to the floor at his craziness. They've never forgotten that moment and have talked about it over and over again.

Last week, I had my kids do this writing assignment with my parents as the subject. On the board, I wrote, "Once upon a time, there was a man named Dutch and a lady named Bebe." They were to begin writing a story for 1 minute. After a minute, they had to swap papers with someone else, who would then read what was written and add on to the story they were given. After swapping papers 4 times, each person read their original story aloud. I'll share the winning story below in honor of my parents. This is pretty realistic if you know Bob and Helen. Mom and Dad, I love you!

Once upon a time, there was a man named Dutch and a lady named Bebe. Dutch was a man that was very humorous, but Bebe had lots of problems with that. He kept on doing what Bebe didn't want him to do. He often pulled his shirt up in front of people and rubbed his tummy. He also talked with his daughter in a weird language. So, Bebe often got embarrassed. One day, Bebe got so mad that she ran out of the house. But Dutch did not notice that and kept playing pranks. He went to the store and did more pranks. He came back and asked Audie, "Where is Bebe?" but Audie said, "I don't know." He later went out to find her. When he found her, she was doing the same pranks, so they did it together. Later, all the family joined in and did the pranks. Everyone was looking at them like crazy! But they weren't embarrassed. That was the time when everyone became crazy in their family! Yahoo!

So, I can totally see that story being true, with a little "shake your bonbon" added in. Ah, I miss the VanDykes. I love you, Audie! -Hannah Norton

Audie, that is just too funny! What a great writing assignment. I give you an A+ for coming up with that one. Even though I have only met your dad one time - this story is so true based on the stories you have told me and his personality I got to see for myself. :) Tell your parents I said Happy Anniversary! Can't wait to see you soon!

Love,
Leigha
